Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day is celebrated in America every year on February 14. This is considered a romantic holiday when lovers do something to show their affection for each other. Usually cards are exchanged. Sometimes presents are also given. These presents could include: flowers (especially red roses), chocolates, stuffed animals, jewelry, and other things. Many couples also try to spend a romantic part of the day together. Some might go out for dinner, or maybe enjoy a picnic lunch. In addition to being a holiday for lovers, this day is celebrated by most Americans with their family and friends without the romantic side. Many children have parties at school, where they decorate the classroom, and exchange small cards with their friends. As children reach junior high and high school age, they began to only exchange cards with their boyfriend or girlfriend. Unlike Japan, America has only one day to celebrate love and romance, so both boys and girls, men and women, participate in exchanging cards, or gifts. Although, traditionally, the boys/men are expected to do something extra special.
